I was looking at the post suggestions that are on UBLearns for this course and they are all geared towards novels. I think the most logical thing for us to do is make the questions relevant to short stories. With that being said, I have re-tweaked the first two response prompts. Feel free to make suggestions on how to make the questions better and to reformulate questions for upcoming weeks. Also, since we don't have the books, I believe we should have all read "Small Good Thing." As mentioned in class yesterday, once we all get our books we can figure out how many stories to read a week and what not.
Post 1: Read the 1st line of "A Small Good Thing," think about the title. What do you think this story will be about? Take some guesses and see where they lead you…
If you have already read the short story by the time you read the prompt (above), consider addressing the following;
Preconception vs. Textual Reality
Talk about the expectations you had for "A Small Good Thing" before reading (perhaps this expectations stemmed from word of mouth or simply by reading the title). Then, talk about how your expectations were exceeded, proven, or disproved by the "reality" of the text.
